2022 Wrap-Up: Interior Design Sydney

by | Dec 29, 2022 | Interior Design, Life Of A Designer | 0 comments

It’s hard to believe that 2022 is almost over and within days we will be welcoming 2023. For those of you that don’t know, each year I publish a quick wrap-up blog, as it’s always wonderful to look back and reflect on the past 12 months, while the excitement and anticipation grow for the next 12.

The Studio

We’ve been in our studio in Woollahra now for 3 ½ years now, and every day I am still so thrilled this is where Marylou Sobel Interior Design has its home. This year Stephanie returned from maternity leave after the birth of her second child (my grandson). Not only is it great to have her back working alongside me again, but she is now also enjoying her new senior position as Associate Interior Architect. Well done Stephanie, I am looking forward to continuing to watch you grow in 2023.

Blanka has been part of the team for almost two years now, and Hannah, our newest member of the MSID studio has completed her first full year here. They’ve both been an incredible asset to the team, the energy in the studio is so inspiring. We also have a lot of fun and laugh a lot!

The Projects

The projects we have been working on in 2022 are amazing and so exciting to work on – the clients we are working with have been really fantastic. We recently installed a project that we have been working on for the past year, with the rest spilling into next year, but we are doing what we love and designing entire homes. The scope of work has been really broad which keeps it interesting and exciting for all involved, and we are working really well with our clients.

The Processes

One of the reasons we have been working with our clients so well this year is potentially because we introduced new processes. I’ve been working on this for a couple of years now, but 2021/22 saw this properly integrated into our daily practice and they’ve really made a huge difference.

The People

Not only have my team and my clients been an absolute pleasure to work with this year, but so have our tradespeople. Over the years we have forged strong, meaningful relationships and it really does show in the quality and finish of all of our work.

And not only those people that you may see if you work with us, but those behind the scenes working alongside me too. From the reach, creativity and brand awareness our marketing agency delivers, to the fantastic support my PA Irina has given me throughout the year, across to my finances always being kept in perfect order thanks to my bookkeepers, accountant and financial advisor.

I am looking forward to working with everyone again in the new year and for many years to come.

Personally…

Outside of the studio, this year I travelled overseas for the first time in three years, with a memorable trip to France with my husband Robin. It was fabulous and inspiring to be in Paris at the same time as the Maison et Objet exhibition. Not forgetting inspiration right here in Sydney at the Design Show Australia, which is always great to attend.

What’s in store for 2023

I am excited to see the projects we have been working hard on in 2022 coming to fruition in 2023. Meeting new clients and starting new projects is always exciting for me too. And of course, looking forward to more travel in 2023.

It really has been a fantastic year with a fabulous team and I’m looking forward to what the new year will bring! To beautiful design always.

Stephanie Nadel

Assosciate Interior Architect

What makes Stephanie Nadel’s success story so remarkable is that she has come so far, so fast.
Stephanie, the Associate Interior Architect at Marylou Sobel Interior Design, has gained more experience, and handled more responsibilities in the past ten years than many other design professionals take on in their careers.

Stephanie, a multi-talented full service professional, carried out a wide variety of commercial and residential design tasks while she was based in London. She worked for three prominent interior design firms, as well as on her own, and served clients around the world.

In the process, she helped complete within 12 weeks the design and installation of a penthouse suite on The World, the luxury residential yacht that circumnavigates the globe. Prior to this Stephanie lead the full refurbishment of a lavish, Grade II listed, five bedroom home in the Hampstead Garden suburbs in London.

During her five years in London, she worked with Gensler, the world’s largest collaborative design, planning and consulting firm; MoreySmith, a leading design and architecture studio, and Fiona Barratt Interiors, an award-winning luxury design firm.

Assisting with projects for those firms, launching her own residential practice, and interacting with vendors worldwide provided her with project management, creative problem solving, sourcing, technical and other skills that benefit her clients today.

Stephanie earned her Bachelor of Interior Architecture degree at the University of New South Wales.

While she is adept in several aspects of design, she’s particularly interested in the challenge of refurbishing existing spaces. “I enjoy the problem solving that’s involved with existing buildings,” she says. “Although it is always a privilege to design alongside a team to create new and innovative structures, I love creating meaningful design from older properties and taking inspiration from heritage details.”
