Here at Marylou Sobel Interior Design, we have been really excited to debut one of our latest projects with you all… Introducing, Cowper Wharf Residence.
This project was particularly exciting- seeing an apartment take on new life with luxury, contemporary finishes

Located on the waterfront in Woolloomooloo, Sydney, the residence has become an inner-city oasis for our client, now presented as an elegant and highly sophisticated space. The refreshed design takes advantage of the breathtaking harbourside views and is simply spectacular.
Modern, chic, comfortable and functional was the client brief, we redesigned the furniture, soft furnishings, lighting and artwork, as well as accessorising.

We were inspired by the beautiful, iconic Sydney harbour, surrounding ships and landscaping, all visible from the apartment, so this provided a direction for the palette for the project. Our intention here was for the interiors to compliment the natural hues of the outside, bringing it together seamlessly.

This apartment is a secondary home for our clients, a weekend getaway- an escape from everyday life in the suburbs. So, we made sure we made considerations for maintenance- we also needed it to be luxurious and offer the perfect setting for our clients to entertain their guests.
For optimum results for our clients, it is critical for us to know and understand our client’s lifestyles really well, designing according to how they live and want their spaces to function, as well as how they would like it to look and feel.

We began by stripping the apartment back to the architectural finishes; we then took a minimalistic approach when furnishing the apartment. An emphasis was placed on scale and drama, to create an uncluttered, luxurious space. We applied bold finishes to the accent pieces, which sat perfectly amongst the very neutral existing architectural features.

We also worked with some of our client’s existing art collection, with artists including Dale Frank, Tim Storrier and Zai Kuang all featuring. The pieces were vibrant and striking in form and colour, so it was important that the interiors were designed as a perfect canvas to balance out the impact of these artworks.

The artworks were also complimented by the bespoke rugs that we sourced for the apartment. The rug selections provided great continuity

The sunburst mirror above was another existing piece of our client’s collection, though it was gathering dust in the garage. We were able to breathe new life into this piece, lovingly restoring it- we love the results, it now makes a beautiful statement in the entrance hall.
