Heart of the Home: The Kitchen Experience

A kitchen is so much more than just a place to cook! It’s the hub of the home, where family and friends gather. Whether you’re a seasoned home cook or simply adore the idea of a beautiful, functional kitchen, designing your space with practicality and functionality in mind is essential to us.

“The kitchen, or hub of the home, where family and friends come together to feed their bellies and their souls…

A place of comfort, energy and culinary experience, where food and conversation are had.”

-Marylou Sobel

Every bit of worktop and cabinet space is precious. We love chatting with our clients about how they plan to use their kitchens the most—what appliances will be in high demand and which items will be frequently used. This way, we can design a kitchen that perfectly meets your needs, ensuring it becomes one of your favourite rooms in the house.

We love adding personal touches to this space. Your kitchen should be an inviting room that welcomes guests to be part of the action and inspires you to create! Incorporating a colour scheme, cabinetry hardware, and fixtures that reflect your style is a great way to inject personality. We also love incorporating open shelving to display decorative items and your favourite kitchen tools or special heirloom dishes.

We are also huge fans of an island bench if the space allows. It’s a great way to maximise storage and offer additional bench space. Whether it be for prepping, cooking, cleaning, or as a social space like informal dining or a breakfast bar, we want to make sure it offers functionality.

Proper lighting is another essential element. It’s nice to have the option to dim the space when it’s not being used for cooking or when you’re enjoying it socially. And what’s not to love about fabulous pendant lights over an island or dining area to tie it all together!

Camouflaging appliances, especially in a smaller kitchen, is a brilliant way to create a uniform and cohesive look. Custom joinery and panels that match the other cabinetry help create a seamless flow. With so many kitchens being open-plan and visible from other rooms, staring directly at a bulky fridge or microwave is far less appealing than admiring beautiful cabinetry. We love ensuring there are ample storage spaces for smaller appliances like toasters and blenders, which often take up valuable bench space.
