Blending Classic and Contemporary Interior Design in Sydney…
At Marylou Sobel Interior Design, we believe heritage homes deserve to be lived in — not just admired. Our work across Sydney’s heritage home interiors celebrates original character while introducing contemporary comfort, thoughtful functionality, and refined beauty.
The Ferris Street project — a Federation home in the leafy suburb of Annandale — exemplifies this approach. Designed for a family who have cherished the home for four generations, the renovation sought to honour its past while creating a warm, cohesive and inviting interior for modern life.
Walls were reimagined to open up the plan and enhance natural flow. Soft curved joinery brings gentle movement between living spaces, while new wide oak flooring introduces a timeless foundation. A neutral base palette is uplifted by fresh accents of citrus, pinks, greens and blues — hues that reference both nature and nostalgia.
From the master bedroom’s calming blue tones to the heritage-inspired black and white tiles in the bathrooms and laundry, each detail reflects our dedication to blending old and new interiors in Australia — creating spaces that feel connected to history yet perfectly suited to today.
“It is all in the detail. We are very comfortable in our ‘new’ home.” — Client, Ferris Street
Our passion for classic and contemporary interior design in Sydney continues with The Gables – Wahroonga, another significant heritage renovation currently underway. Set within one of the North Shore’s most beautiful historic homes, this project builds upon our deep understanding of how to modernise heritage homes in Sydney — respecting original craftsmanship while introducing layers of light, texture and modern luxury.
Whether you’re considering a Sydney heritage house renovation or simply seeking classic and contemporary design inspiration, Marylou and her team bring an expert eye to the delicate art of heritage home interior design.
