Stunning, bespoke furniture pieces…
Sometimes, an interior just calls for something special- something bespoke and designed with the extraordinary space in mind. In the homes, offices and apartments that I have worked on in the past, there have been a few standout rooms for me in which I have loved to create bespoke, one-of-a-kind pieces for.
A one-of-a-kind piece definitely has many rewards in store for the client, it can also really make a statement and truly reflect an individual or family’s personality and lifestyle.
When designing and working on custom pieces, I am also able to oversee the manufacturing process, involving my clients in the process, which ensures a high-quality finish and of course, client satisfaction.
During the 30 years, I have spent working as a designer, I have designed and worked on many bespoke pieces, so I have decided to share my favourite furniture pieces to custom-design with you…
Dining tables
A dining table is where friends and family gather, on special occasions and during meals that truly bring loved ones and new friends together to enjoy food, coffee & wine. Many stories are told and fond memories can be made around a dining table, which is why I believe your dining table deserves to be custom made and to really tell a story of it’s own.
The above, along with crafting the perfect table just for you in dimensions specific to your dining area make great reasons to go bespoke with your dining table.

Sofas
Whether it is a matter of fabric selections for custom upholstery, or custom dimensions to fit perfectly within your space, or a complete custom-designed sofa, it is an investment I encourage my clients to make. At times, I might search high and low with my client’s vision and brief in mind, and that perfect piece just never reveals itself. With custom, bespoke pieces, there is no need for the client to compromise on functionality, style or (most importantly) comfort. I am able to create the sofa of my client’s dreams, the ultimate in nap-able luxury- so indulgent.
There are many options when it comes to designing a bespoke sofa- from the cushion inserts, arm length, height & width, to fabric choices and cushion depth, there is a lot to consider during the design process.

A coffee table
Another perfect chance to be creative with furniture finishes, materials, shape and size. A coffee table can become a focal point of any sitting area and a great way to bring a statement piece into the picture.
I love designing pieces that tell a story, such as using reclaimed wood from fence pailings or sleepers- reclaimed wood brings a lot of character into the room. Below, for my Dumaresq Road project, we used an iron frame and solid timber tops to create a soft, industrial look for the living area.

Dining chairs
A dining chair can be a lot of fun- take the chairs below, for example. The fabric is called The Beatles and is supplied by the English design company, Andrew Martin. I just love how these chairs have a quirky twist that would spark a great dinner conversation. Occasionally, my client might have antique dining chairs or we might come across antique chairs on sourcing trips, that can be brought back to life with new upholstery and refinished to produce wonderful results.

In the photo above, I had these slip covers made for the dining chairs- I purchased fully upholstered chairs and had the leopard covers custom made, I love them!
A bed
A bedroom is a special space, it is where my clients really want to come home to something beautiful, luxurious and calming. When designing a headboard for a bed, there is a lot of freedom to be able to use exciting, over the top fabrics and over-scaled proportions- you can have a lot of fun with it. In contrast, when purchasing a headboard off the floor, they tend to be very standard heights, designs and fabrics and so the outcome can be very different.

An ottoman
The perfect compliment to a sofa, I believe that a soft, luxurious ottoman calls for a bespoke design. Not only a place to put your feet up, an ottoman can be used and styled as a coffee table, like below, which is styled with trays and books, to create level surfaces for candles, vases and objet.
