How I begin a project
Every project in our studio starts with listening rather than layouts. I spend time understanding how you move through your home where you naturally gather, what you tend to avoid, and which small rituals anchor your routine. Instead of asking “What do you like?”, I ask “How do you want to live here?”, so your brief is shaped around experience as much as aesthetics.
Sometimes that means we are working within the existing layout, refining and resolving what is already there. Other times, the project calls for a complete rethinking of the floor plan so the home flows, functions and feels the way it should. In both cases, every decision comes back to how you want to live day to day. When we do not have access to the home for our early meetings, we begin with plans, photographs and your descriptions. I study the architecture on paper: the proportions of each room, the way spaces connect, and the likely paths of light throughout the day. This early stage is about thoughtful editing – deciding what to keep, what to calm and where there is room to gently layer in something new once we are physically in the space.

The decisions I come back to every time
Behind each project there are certain decisions I treat as non‑negotiable. The first is proportion: furniture and joinery must feel in tune with the architecture, so each room is balanced rather than crowded or sparse. The second is light – both natural and
artificial – which I use to create a gentle rhythm throughout the day, from sunlit breakfast corners to softly lit evening spaces.
The third is flow. I think carefully about how one room leads into the next, ensuring there is continuity without everything feeling the same. That might mean repeating a favourite timber, stone or metal detail in subtle ways, or allowing a single colour to appear as a quiet thread from room to room. These consistencies create ease: a home that feels whole, even as each space has its own personality.

What my “signature” really is
In the end, my signature is not a fixed look. It’s a feeling. It is the comfort of walking into a home that reflects you with clarity and warmth. It is the ease of living in spaces that function beautifully without constantly calling attention to themselves. And it is the assurance that every decision – from the curve of a sofa to the placement of a lamp – has been made with both beauty and longevity in mind. For me, that is the true art of interior design: creating homes that quietly support the life within them, today and for many years to come.
